Front-End Web Developer

ShopWell is a venture-backed spin-off of IDEO, the global design consultancy (www.ideo.com). The company is developing a new service around food and nutrition, based in Palo Alto, California, and currently operating in “stealth” mode.

Role
This is a key technical position requiring both vision and excellent technical chops, and is an opportunity for you to flex your creative talent. It’s also an opportunity to get in on the ground floor of a fast moving early-stage company with a tremendous opportunity for growth.

Responsibilities
Your primary responsibility will be to produce cross-browser compatible HTML and CSS that matches specifications from our collaborative design team. Facility with JavaScript, Rails/Grails as you will be collaborating with our developers working in these languages. The ideal candidate will enjoy working both on prototypes to be used in ongoing user research as well as polished pages for the website. Provide leadership in establishing our culture of smart and nimble Agile development based on quick iteration and user stories

Requirements

* HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Grails, cross-browser compatibility (IE6, FF, Safari, Chrome)
* BS/MS/CS or equivalent, and 6+ years of commercial Web Application development.
* Strong Passion for learning and adapting new technologies, and producing high visibility, customer-facing websites
* Strong and in-depth knowledge of Web development basics, object-oriented design, programming, and debugging skills
* Must have experience with Web Development starting from wireframes all the way to production ready modules
* Demonstrable in-depth experience with JavaScript toolkits, JQuery, AJAX, JSON, DHTML, XHTML and CSS.
* Understanding of various design patterns in use for web development
* Working knowledge of RESTful web services and their consumption/integration using JSON/JavaScript.
* Working knowledge of MySQL or Oracle
* Identify and investigate key requirements and solutions, developing innovative approaches to solve tough technical problems
* Deliver components on aggressive schedules, on-time and on-budget

Pluses:

* Interest in user experience design and graphic design
* Develop very intuitive consumer UIs, incorporating input from colleagues, site metrics, and user feedback
* Interest in currently evolving healthful food trends and related health developments
* Experimental, user focused, and iterative
* Experience developing and deploying a high-volume consumer web site

Possible Future Pluses:

* Experience writing clients for Open APIs like OpenSocial, Flickr, Facebook Connect, Twitter, Google API, containers like Shindig and/or iPhone apps
